State revokes psychiatrist Marion Fry’s license on marijuana-related conviction

Filed under: Uncategorized — Psych Crime Reporter @ 8:42 pm

On August 7, 2013, the Medical Board of California revoked the license of psychiatrist Marion Fry.

The Board placed Fry on three years probation in August 2009 for negligence, gross negligence and failure to maintain adequate records.

Fry committed gross negligence when she prescribed medicinal marijuana to a patient without performing a thorough assessment of the patient and failed to incorporate into her records the patient’s extensive and complex psychiatric history, including current medications, as set forth in records received from the county mental health agency where the patient had been treated.

Terms of her probation included satisfactory completion of a clinical training program.

Fry attended the program but received a failing grade. Further, Fry was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and manufacture of marijuana, for which she was sentenced to 60 months incarceration. She appealed. The appellate court affirmed the conviction in November 2010.
