On March 7, 2013, the South Carolina State Board of Medical Examiners reprimanded psychiatrist Douglas F. Crane and suspended his license relative to his treatment of a patient to whom he prescribed excessive amounts of controlled substances. Crane “admitted that this history of prescriptions for J.C. either endangered her life if she were to take all the medication…or enabled her to sell her medication if she did not take it all.” Craned further admitted that he did not perform standard blood testing nor require the patient to submit to urine drug screens. Crane agreed to surrender his controlled substance prescribing privileges.
